Welcome to targeted instruction for mathematics! This class is designed to help you build on previous learned math skills as well as to have an opportunity for extra practice and re-teaching of concepts that you will be learning in your current math classes. I believe that learning is both a process and a partnership and that the work that we do together will make you a successful student and a more confident learner.
Structure: We will be meeting four times a week just like your other classes. On our 45 minute days you will have an opportunity to work on whatever it is that you feel is of the most importance at that time. For example, this time can be dedicated to organizing your binders, getting help with a particularly difficult assignment for a class, or learning about the best way to study for an upcoming test. You, the student, will drive what happens on these days based on what you feel you need. This is why it will be important for you to plan ahead and come to class with a goal and a plan on those days. On our 65 minute days we will be working on math. Those periods will be broken out into practicing identified skills that you are struggling with as well as spending time re-learning and/or additional practice of skills that you are currently learning in whatever math class you are taking.
Grading: You will be graded on a number of different things in this class. You will be taking quizzes on your math skills throughout the year. Also, you will be utilizing computer based programs to help you practice these skills and your growth and commitment to completing these assignments will constitute as grades. Additionally, you will receive a participation grade based on how well you plan and on how wisely you use your time on our shortened period days. The break out of grades will look like this:
Skills based quizzes: 40%
Progress monitoring (computer based): 40%
Participation: 20%
